O-Week 2017!

Unibodhi welcomes you back to campus for 2017 🙂 🙂 🙂

We will be there at Oweek from 9am to 4pm all 3 days (Wed 1st Mar to Fri 3rd Mar) Visit and sign up with us and you’ll receive your membership card and complimentary gift bag which includes prayer beads, a bracelet and a small book filled with Buddhist wisdom. Maybe grab a Unibodhi T-shirt as well.

More importantly, you’ll be invited to join all our events throughout the year including the regular meditation sessions and Dhamma talks, as well as our special events like movie nights and bushwalks.

Unibodhi is non-sectarian and welcomes people from all Buddhist traditions, all faiths and all non-religious backgrounds with warmth and openness.

If you have any interest in Buddhism, or if your curiosity is piqued, please come along 🙂 🙂 🙂

Unibodhi’s 35th Anniversary Celebration

You are cordially invited to attend Unibodhi’s 35th anniversary celebration night. There will be a dhamma talk, multimedia and performances centred around the theme of ‘Honesty’. So come along for a night of entertainment and fun 😀 Dinner will also be supplied~

Sem 2 Week 6

Living Diligently: Fortnightly Talk

What does it mean to lead a “diligent” life? Why should we be diligent? How can we become more diligent? Come along to hear a wide ranging discussion about all things “diligence”.
John Barclay is a lay teacher in the tradition of Vietnamese monk, Thich Nhat Hanh. He leads the Wednesday evening Lotus Buds group at the Buddhist Library and Meditation Centre in Camperdown which is associated with a number of lay Thich Nhat Hanh sanghas in the wider Sydney region and with the “Entering the Stream” Monastery in Beaufort, Victoria. John began practicing with Lotus Buds in 1995. He received the Lamp Transmission from Thich Nhat Hanh in 2004. John is currently teaching Buddhist classes to young people at Campsie Public School, Sydney Boys High and Minh Quang Temple, Canley Vale.

Semester 2 is here!

President’s Welcome

I hope everybody had a great Winter Break and welcome to Semester 2. Start of Uni means Unibodhi is also back and we have got plenty of things coming up 🙂 🙂 🙂

Week 9 is here! Meditation and Movie Night

It is amazing to think how we are at week 9 already. Exams are in just over 6 weeks and no doubt those stress levels are beginning to rise with assignments piling up. More reason for you to come and spend some quiet time at our Monday meditation to hit the reset button to allow you to focus on the task at hand. It is at the usual time and place. See our events calendar for details. Meditation is open to everyone.

Another way to help unwind is to join us for our Movie Night screening. We will be screening ‘Inside Out’ so that you can increase your levels of Joy and reduce your Sadness 😉 Food and drinks will also be provided (guaranteed to boost your levels of happiness :))

So come along for a fun-filled night with entertainment, food, and (old and new) friends! Open to everyone.

Lots happening in Week 6!

Weekly Meditation

Unibodhi is very delighted to have Venerable Neng Rong to guide us through metta (loving kindness) meditation, and inspire us with the Buddha’s teachings. Venerable Neng Rong is the abbess of the Hwa Tsang Monastery and also the Buddhist Chaplain of the University of Sydney.
When:  1pm – 2pm, Monday, April 11th
Where: Room 240A, Merewether Building (H04)
Cost: Free for everyone.


USYD Multifaith Chaplaincy Centre Open Day

The Multifaith Chaplaincy Centre is holding an open day after relocating to the Mereweather Building from the beginning of this year. Please come along to check out the facilities and there will be some light lunch (Vegetarian, Kosher and Hallal). Guest speakers include Jordi Austin (Head of Student Support Services) and Rowan Kemp.

When:  12:30pm – 2pm, Thursday, April 14th
Where: Level 2, Merewether Building (H04). The same area where our meditation sessions are held.

Fortnightly Talk – Mindfulness & Compassion as a Crucible for Healing & Liberation from Suffering

Subhana Barzaghi
Subhana Barzaghi is authorised to teach in two different Buddhist traditions – Zen Buddhism and the Vipassana Insight tradition. She has been practicing Buddhist meditation for over 30 years and received dharma transmission in 1996 in the Diamond Sangha Zen tradition. Subhana is the Spiritual Director and resident teacher of the Sydney Zen Centre, and leads regular intensive Zen Sesshins in Sydney & Melbourne. She presently supervises four other Apprentice teachers in the Zen tradition. Website: subhana.com.au

Mid-semester One-Day Retreat – Gratefulness

Last year’s one-day retreat – “The Illusion of Individuality”

How about a day of mindfulness in a peaceful monastic environment to complement your Easter break???
Take a rest from your busy lifestyles, put aside your work & studies, stress & troubles for one day, and come to our ONE-DAY RETREAT at Hwa Tsang Monastery!!

There’ll be Dhamma talks, a guided meditation session and group activities based on the theme: “Gratefulness – Treasuring what we have”. Lunch will be provided. Cost only includes transportation expenses, but donations to the Monastery are welcome.

To register your attendance please fill out the attached form, preferably printed and signed and then hand it to one of the executives at our upcoming events or take a picture and email it to unibodhi@gmail.com.
